In some scenarios it may be appropriate to allow a blank customer initial, this is a global option which can be toggled by high level users. When the option is turned on a client initial will always be required, when the option is off an initial can be entered but is not required.
To access global options, select Options from the menu in traveller then Global Options, the option is near the bottom of the Client tab.

: Some reports may display the clients name oddly whilst using this option.
