Advantage DLLs

What are advantage DLLs?

Advantage DLLs(Dynamic Link Libraries) drive the Traveller database operations on your entire system, the Server uses the DLLs along with the Advantage Database server application to service requests made by workstations.

Why are they so important?

Every single SQL (Structured Query Language) or other database operation will pass through the local Advantage DLLs, over the network, into the Server Advantage DLLs and into the Server. These DLLs are the engine behind your Traveller system.

Are all DLLs the same?

No. Each version of Advantage has it's own DLLs, commonly Advantage servers that are of a higher version than the client will work, BUT it has been found to cause system instability, access violations can be narrowed down to DLL differences and should be checked as a priority if the system appears to be crashing like this.

Advantage client versions that are higher than the Server version will not work at all. Additionally DLLs from version 7.1 upwards have been reported to improve speed and system robustness greatly.

If you are at all unsure as to which version of Advantage DLLs your workstations are using contact support.
