Having a background will use up a little more system resources just like having a wallpaper in windows would, equally however having a background makes an otherwise rather dull area of the screen much more interesting!
The image displayed is always centered and is the same per branch, to configure the image navigate to Options/Tools ~> Global Options ~> System.

The option above hilighted in red will enable you to define any *.bmp picture as a background. Please consider that this path must be accessible by all users otherwise they will not have the image displayed. I.E. It would be a good idea to link to the image in the following way "\\Server\Conctrav\Wallpapers\Sunnyday.bmp" this way all users can see the location of that file.
The advantage of the method above is that the one image could be changed and all users would be updated when they next rebooted their Traveller sessions.
Optionally, you could define the path as "C:\Conctrav\Wallpaper.bmp", using this method the individual clerk could save a bitmap on their local machine under this path and filename and have their own image displayed. The advantages to this method is that each user can have their own image and the image is local and will therefore load faster.
It is advised that your system administrator, IT personnel or a member of staff familiar with the Windows file system configures this item. Use whichever configuration suits your business best from the 2 options above.
