Multi Tray Printers

With the vast array of printers on offer today it would be folly to presume that each and every one is compatible with every application you choose to run. There are a myriad of printer manufacturers all developing hardware to their own specifications and aiming for them to be compatible with Windows / Linux / OSX (Apple) to name a few.

Use that as a platform and add in system configuration, terminal services, web enabled applications, driver versions, different connectivity options (LAN, USB, Printer ports) it's a wonder they work at all! Most, if not all new printers are designed to work with the Windows operating system and whilst there have been no reported problems of a printer not working completely we have received calls where a printer would not work as expected.

If your printer has multiple trays then you may know it is possible to print on different paper types using the same printer, effectively your removing the need to take out the plain paper and place headed paper in for a particular print run, it's an time saving idea from the printer companies. However, Traveller has been known on a very small number of occasions to fail in it's attempt to print to the correct tray, this can be for a number of reasons, the most common have been resolved below :

1) Ensure that for each tray you have defined a totally separate printer.

2) If point (1) fails install the following hot fix. (Possibly carried out by Support)

2.1) Download the hot fix. and extract it to a memorable location

2.2) On the clients PC who is having printing issues launch PRDrive.exe and select all the printers you have defined as part of the multi-tray printer. The screen shot below indicates the values you must write down in order to configure the .ini file later on in this procedure. (additional screen shot)

2.3) Open the QRPRINT.ini file and fill in the UNC's with the corresponding printer sources.

2.4) Place QRPT50.bpl and QRPrint.ini together in a folder that your client PC's can see. The Traveller Share is an excellent place.

2.5) Create a batch file to copy these 2 file from their current location to "C:\Conctrav\*.*" on the client PC's

2.6) Test on one client PC the batch file and that the changes made cause the printer to use the correct Tray.

If you are having issues with multi-tray printers and the above does not help contact support or your account manager to arrange assistance.
